Resolution on SSANU UNIZIK Congress

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka Branch, has resolved to support industrial action if the Federal Government fails to conclude the long-pending renegotiation of the 2009 agreement with the union.

The resolution was reached during the branch congress held on Thursday at the SSANU Secretariat in Awka, where members deliberated on the prolonged delay in renegotiating the FG/SSANU 2009 Agreement.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the congress condemned what it described as unnecessary delays by the Federal Government in addressing both monetary and non-monetary issues affecting staff welfare.

The congress also rejected what it termed the purported 30 per cent increase in the Consolidated Salary Structure allegedly signed by the Minister of Education, describing the information as maliciously circulated.

It warned that continued delay in addressing staff welfare concerns could negatively affect industrial harmony and stability within the university system.

The branch further declared its alignment with the decision of the SSANU National Executive Council (NEC) to embark on industrial action at the expiration of the 30-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government to conclude and sign the renegotiation agreement.

According to the resolution, any industrial action declared by the national leadership would be total, comprehensive, and indefinite, with no skeletal or essential services to be rendered if the Federal Government fails to resolve pending issues on or before April 30, 2026.

The congress also urged members to remain vigilant, united, law-abiding, and responsive to directives from both national and branch leadership of the union.

The resolution was jointly signed by the Branch Chairperson, Anthonia Chukwudi, and the Branch Secretary, Tevin Anyali.
