FAAC Reconvenes Meeting Following Revenue Dispute Resolution

The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) is reconvening its meeting today (Monday) to distribute ₦1.969 trillion among the three tiers of government following the resolution of a dispute that stalled revenue sharing for about two weeks.

Multiple sources at the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) confirmed that representatives of the federal and state governments reached an agreement last Friday after adjustments were made to disputed revenue line items that had deadlocked FAAC meetings.

State commissioners of finance are expected to meet in Abuja today to ratify the revised figures and approve the FAAC communiqué, clearing the way for the release of funds to the federal, state and local governments.

A senior official in the finance ministry said only a minor adjustment was required to resolve the disagreement.
“What I can confirm is that FAAC will share ₦1.969 trillion today. Salaries will start dropping immediately after ratification,” the official said.

The dispute arose from disagreements over the distribution of December 2025 revenue estimated at ₦2.585 trillion, with state governments pushing for higher distributable sums. The deadlock delayed the January 20 FAAC meeting and led to salary payment delays for public sector workers across the country.

An OAGF source noted that the unresolved issue prevented approval of the FAAC communiqué, affecting workers in the Accountant General’s office.
“Hopefully, salaries will be paid from today because the issues have now been resolved,” the source said.

A senior Ministry of Finance official played down claims of serious friction, describing the disagreement as a routine fiscal issue that would be formally concluded at today’s meeting.

Despite the FAAC deadlock, it was gathered that cabinet ministers received their salaries last Thursday, while some institutions not fully dependent on FAAC allocations, including the judiciary and paramilitary agencies, continued salary payments.

FAAC, established under Section 162 of the 1999 Constitution, meets monthly to allocate federally collected revenue to the federal, state and local governments, funding salaries, pensions and government operations across Nigeria.
