The Bauchi State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in crime prevention and control in January 2026, including the recovery of stolen vehicles, arrest of robbery and kidnapping suspects, and seizure of arms and ammunition.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing journalists on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, at the command headquarters in Bauchi.
According to him, the command recovered two stolen vehicles during the period. He said a Toyota Hilux belonging to an Emirate Council was stolen on January 5 at a filling station along Jos Road but was promptly recovered, leading to the arrest of a suspect.
He added that operatives of ‘A’ Division also intercepted a stolen Honda Civic along Bauchi–Jos Road on January 23, arresting two suspects. Investigations revealed the vehicle was stolen in Kaduna State in December 2025 and was immediately handed over to its rightful owner, a medical doctor in Jigawa State.
On public order, Habib said police operatives successfully intervened in a protest by truck drivers who blocked the Bauchi–Jos Road at Miri on January 16, restoring peace and reopening the highway without incident.
The police spokesperson further said operatives recovered two stolen tricycles and a motorcycle at different locations in Bauchi, leading to the arrest of suspects involved in theft and robbery. He noted that efforts were ongoing to arrest suspects who abandoned a stolen motorcycle along Railway Road.
Habib also disclosed that police foiled suspected armed robbery and kidnapping attempts in Kirfi area of the state. He said two siblings were arrested on January 26 after blocking the Bauchi–Gombe highway, with charms, ammunition and other items recovered from them.
He added that on January 27, police operatives, working with local security outfits, rescued two kidnapped victims in Bara Village, neutralised one suspect and arrested a 60-year-old alleged kingpin. Several locally fabricated firearms, cartridges and other exhibits were recovered during the operation.
In another development, the command arrested a suspect for impersonation and forgery over the alleged illegal use of a Nigerian Bar Association stamp and seal. The suspect has been arraigned in court, while investigations continue.
Habib also said two suspects were arrested in Alkaleri Local Government Area on February 3 while allegedly supplying fuel to bandits. He said 560 litres of petrol were recovered from them.
Other recoveries made by the command include AK-47 rifles, Dane guns, live ammunition, cutlasses, knives and other dangerous weapons.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Bauchi State Police Command to maintaining safety and security, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support crime-fighting efforts in the state.
