Yobe ranks among top states on LGA budget transparency

Yobe State has emerged among the top 10 states in Nigeria with publicly available Local Government Area (LGA) budget documents, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and accountability in grassroots governance.

Data released by StatiSense, a public sector data analytics platform, listed Yobe alongside Ekiti, Ebonyi, Osun, Kebbi, Kogi, Enugu, Kaduna, Cross River and Borno states as leaders in providing open access to LGA financial records.

The ranking highlights Yobe’s efforts to promote openness in governance by making budgetary information accessible to citizens, civil society organisations and development partners for effective monitoring of public expenditure.

Observers say transparency in LGA budgeting remains a key pillar of good governance, as it builds public trust, strengthens fiscal discipline and encourages citizen participation in decision-making processes that affect local communities.

The development is in line with the reform agenda of Gov. Mai Mala Buni’s administration, which prioritises improved service delivery, institutional efficiency and accountability in the public sector.

Analysts note that by institutionalising openness in financial reporting, the state is aligning with global best practices while setting a standard for other states in the North-East region.

Stakeholders, however, urged the government to sustain the momentum through timely publication of financial data and to ensure that increased transparency translates into tangible development outcomes across communities.
