The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos branch, has announced a total withdrawal of services over the delayed payment of March 2026 salary and the non-inclusion of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) in staff salaries.
In a notice issued to members on Tuesday, the union directed all lecturers to abstain from lectures, examinations and statutory meetings with immediate effect.
The directive, signed by the branch Chairperson, Jurbe Joseph Molwus, stated that the action followed due consultation and compliance with resolutions of the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) and branch congress.
“After following due process, we hereby request all members to abstain from lectures, conduct of exams and statutory meetings as our salary for the month of March 2026 is yet to be paid despite our patience,” the notice read.
The union said the industrial action took effect from Wednesday, April 8, and would continue until the outstanding salary was paid.
According to ASUU-UNIJOS, consultations indicated that the delay was linked to processes at the Office of the Accountant‑General of the Federation, noting that the university bursary had completed its part of the payment procedure.
The branch expressed concern that its patience was being taken for granted, warning that continued delays could undermine industrial harmony within the university system.
ASUU also announced that a strike monitoring team had been activated to ensure full compliance with the directive among its members.
The development is expected to disrupt academic activities at the university pending the resolution of the salary payment and allowance issues.
