SSANU Maintains Nationwide Strike Action Despite FG-renegotiation Meeting

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities has insisted that its ongoing industrial action will continue unabated, despite the Federal Government’s decision to schedule a fresh meeting with the union’s renegotiation team on Monday, May 4, 2026.

The union, in an update issued by its National Vice President for Northwest, Comrade Sabo Balarabe Wudil, said the strike had entered its third day and would be sustained until its demands were adequately addressed.

According to the statement, the scheduled meeting with the government team is being viewed as a consequence of the pressure generated by the ongoing nationwide action, rather than a signal to suspend the strike.

Members across branches were directed to intensify compliance with the strike directive, with leaderships urged to ensure full participation in order to maintain its effectiveness.

The union further announced the inauguration of a National Monitoring Committee, which has already commenced oversight duties to enforce strict adherence across all branches.

It also warned that any branch found granting concessions or undermining the strike would face severe sanctions from the national leadership.

The development underscores SSANU’s resolve to sustain industrial action even as dialogue with the Federal Government is set to resume in Abuja.
