NPA, Borno Move to Boost Export Linkages Through Port–Hinterland Connectivity

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has intensified efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s export capacity through renewed focus on port–hinterland connectivity, aimed at linking inland producers to global markets.

As part of the initiative, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, alongside Executive Director Engr. Ibrahim Abba Umar, received Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, Governor of Borno State, at the Authority’s headquarters in Marina, Lagos on Tuesday.

The meeting highlighted a shared commitment to enhancing trade infrastructure and ensuring that producers in remote hinterland communities are better connected to international markets. The NPA noted that improving logistics systems, easing cargo movement, and expanding access to port facilities are central to reducing bottlenecks that hinder export growth.

According to the Authority, the initiative is designed to unlock the economic potential of inland regions by creating efficient trade corridors that will support increased non-oil exports and attract investment.

The engagement also reflects growing collaboration between federal institutions and subnational governments in advancing Nigeria’s trade objectives. With its strong agricultural base and commercial prospects, Borno State is expected to benefit significantly from improved access to maritime trade routes.

Stakeholders believe that strengthening such linkages will not only boost export volumes but also generate employment opportunities and drive inclusive economic development across the country.

The NPA reaffirmed that deepening port–hinterland connectivity remains a key strategy in positioning Nigeria as a competitive player in global trade while ensuring balanced economic growth nationwide.
