FG Promises New CONTTA Review in Two Weeks

The Federal Government has assured non-academic staff unions that a new review of the Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance (CONTTA) will be concluded within two weeks.
The commitment was made during a meeting between the FGN Expanded Tertiary Institutions Negotiation Committee and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of SSANU and NASU after withdrawal of the previously approved 30% by the federal ggovernment on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to the committee, the proposed review of CONTTA forms a key part of efforts to resolve ongoing disputes and improve welfare for non-teaching staff in federal tertiary institutions.
The government appealed to the unions to suspend their ongoing strike to allow for the conclusion of negotiations, assuring that all outstanding issues, including the revised CONTTA package, would be finalised within the timeline.
In response, the unions said they had secured firm assurances on the review and would consult members on suspending the industrial action effective May 11, while talks continue.
The strike, which began on May 1, has disrupted activities across public universities nationwide.
