
A 100-level student of the Federal University of Technology Akure, identified as Favour Olaniyi, has been found dead near his off-campus residence in Akure, Ondo State.
The institution confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Corporate Communication and Protocol, Adegbenro Adebanjo.
According to the statement, the deceased was a student of the Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics and was discovered dead close to his apartment on Saturday.
Adebanjo said the university management immediately alerted the police after the incident was reported.
He explained that security operatives and medical officials from the institution coordinated the evacuation of the body to the morgue, while officers of the Nigeria Police Force visited the scene for preliminary investigation.
The university spokesperson disclosed that the parents of the deceased had been informed of the development.
He added that the police had commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death, noting that the university was fully cooperating with security agencies.
Adebanjo also stated that the institution had begun providing counselling support to students and colleagues affected by the incident.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his parents and family members at this very difficult time,” he said.
The university further encouraged students facing emotional or personal challenges to make use of counselling and support services available through the Students Affairs Division.
