The Yobe State Government has announced that the N22 billion Damaturu flyover and underpass project will be completed before the end of May 2026.
The Commissioner for Works, Umar Wakil Duddaye, made this known on Monday during a media tour of the project site in Damaturu.
He was represented at the briefing by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the ministry, Hassan Musa Ibrahim.
According to him, the project has reached its final stage, with construction firm TRIACTA already carrying out asphalt laying and drainage works.
He said the flyover project, initiated under Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration, is progressing steadily and is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the state capital.
“The project was awarded in phases. The flyover contract was handed over to the company on February 21, 2025, with a completion period of one year,” he said.
He explained that in October 2025, the project scope was expanded to include the dualisation of the main road from 530 Motor Park to the 27 August Stadium, covering about 6.6 kilometres on both sides, including green areas.
Duddaye stated that the total cost of the project stands at N22 billion, adding that the government had released 50 per cent mobilisation fee and continued to make payments based on certified work done.
“We are hoping to pay the final certificate by the end of this month. As you heard from the contractor, the project will be completed by the end of this month,” he added.
Speaking during the inspection tour, the Yobe State Area Manager of TRIACTA Construction Company, Mr. Fadi Abiad, said the project has reached 96 per cent completion.
He expressed confidence that all remaining works would be concluded within the scheduled timeframe, noting that most structural and finishing works had already been completed.
The flyover and underpass project is expected to improve road safety, reduce travel time within Damaturu, and enhance the overall urban outlook of the state capital once completed.
