The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted a heavyweight screening panel to assess former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of its 2027 presidential primaries.
The screening exercise is scheduled to take place on Tuesday under the leadership of the party’s national leadership headed by Dr. Tanimu Turaki.
According to ThisDay, the panel comprises prominent party figures, including former Vice President Namadi Sambo, elder statesman Jonah Jang, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi.
The development marks a key step in the opposition party’s early preparations and strategic positioning for the 2027 general elections.
Party sources say the exercise is part of internal procedures aimed at evaluating aspirants and strengthening the PDP’s presidential selection process.
The inclusion of high-profile political actors in the screening panel underscores the importance the party is attaching to the forthcoming primaries, as it seeks to consolidate its base ahead of the national contest.
Goodluck Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president between 2010 and 2015, remains a significant figure in the country’s political landscape and within the PDP structure.
The party is expected to continue its preparatory activities in the coming months as it builds momentum toward the 2027 elections.
