The management of Modibbo Adama University has suspended the payment of the Consequential Adjustment of Tertiary Allowance (CATA) to academic staff over the non-release of cash backing by the Federal Government.

This was contained in an internal memo issued by the university’s Bursar, Haniel N. Ayuka, dated May 18, 2026, and addressed to all academic staff.

According to the memo, the Federal Ministry of Education had earlier directed all vice chancellors to source funds from their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and commence payment of the allowance to deserving academic staff effective from January 2026.

The university stated that it complied with the directive and had been paying the allowance from its IGR since January.

However, the institution noted that the expected cash backing from the Federal Government had yet to be released.

“Consequently, the University is unable to sustain the continued payment of the CATA allowance and will henceforth suspend the payment until the Federal Government of Nigeria sends the necessary cash backing,” the memo stated.

The suspension, according to the university, takes effect from May 2026.

Copies of the memo were also sent to the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Provost, Registrar, Internal Auditor, University Librarian, Deans, ASUU Chairman, Head of Payroll and file copy.
