The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) have summoned emergency meetings over ongoing renegotiation talks with the Federal Government.
In separate circulars issued by the unions, the meetings are scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 23, 2026, in Abuja.
NASU, in a notice dated May 20 and signed by its Senior Assistant General Secretary (Universities), Mr Adedamola Adelekun, directed all branch chairmen in universities and inter-university centres to attend the meeting at Top Rank Hotels, Area 11, Garki, Abuja.
According to the circular, discussions will focus on the ongoing renegotiation of the 2009 agreement between the Federal Government and NASU.
Similarly, SSANU, in a circular dated May 21, announced an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at its National Secretariat in Abuja.
The notice, signed on behalf of the General Secretary by Comrade Kabiru Tijjani Duhu, said the meeting would brief NEC members on the SSANU/Federal Government renegotiations.
SSANU stated that attendance at the meeting was mandatory for all NEC members.
The emergency meetings have raised concerns among stakeholders over possible fresh disputes in the university system amid unresolved labour issues between the unions and the Federal Government.
