The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) has convened an emergency meeting of its branch chairmen nationwide to deliberate on the latest developments in the prolonged renegotiation of the 2009 agreement between the Federal Government and the union.
A circular dated June 26, 2026, and signed by the union’s Senior Assistant General Secretary (Universities), Mr Damola Adelekun, for the General Secretary, invited all branch chairmen in universities and inter-university centres to the meeting scheduled for June 30 in Abuja.
According to the circular, the meeting will take place at 12 noon at Top Rank Hotels, Gimbiya Street, Area II, Garki, Abuja.
The union said the meeting would provide an opportunity for members to receive updates on the ongoing renegotiation of the 2009 agreement with the Federal Government and deliberate on the way forward.
The agenda includes opening prayers, addresses by the Deputy President and National President, a presentation by the General Secretary on the latest developments in the renegotiation process, deliberations on the presentation, adoption of resolutions and closing prayers.
“It is expedient for every branch to be represented at this emergency meeting and if your branch can afford it, you may include the two remaining Principal Officers in your branch’s delegation,” the circular stated.
NASU also urged branches to bear the responsibility for sponsoring their delegates to the meeting.
The emergency meeting comes amid growing concerns among university-based unions over delays in concluding the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement and the implementation of outstanding welfare commitments by the Federal Government.
Observers say resolutions reached at the meeting could shape the union’s next line of action regarding its engagement with the government over workers’ welfare and other pending issues in the education sector.
