Many federal government workers across Nigeria are yet to receive their June 2026 salaries, sparking widespread concern and criticism over delays in workers’ welfare.
The delayed payment, which persisted as of June 30, has left many civil servants frustrated as they grapple with rising inflation and the increasing cost of living.
In addition to the salary delay, workers expressed disappointment over the continued non-implementation of peculiar allowances approved by the Federal Government several months ago.
According to the workers, despite repeated assurances by relevant authorities, the approved allowances have yet to be reflected in their earnings.
Several civil servants described the situation as unacceptable, stressing that salaries remain the primary source of livelihood for most public servants and should not be subjected to recurring delays.
They urged the Federal Government, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and other relevant agencies to immediately release the outstanding June salaries and commence implementation of the approved peculiar allowances.
The workers said prompt payment of salaries and implementation of the allowances would boost morale, improve productivity and reaffirm the government’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce.
They also called on the authorities to provide a clear explanation for the delay and communicate a definite timeline for the payment of the outstanding salaries and implementation of the allowances.
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by the relevant government authorities explaining the reason for the delayed payment.
The affected workers expressed hope that the outstanding salaries would be paid without further delay and that the approved peculiar allowances would soon be implemented.
