Hisbah Arrests 14 Suspected Prostitutes, Others In Yobe

The Yobe State Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-orientation has taken action by apprehending 17 individuals for suspected involvement in prostitution and illicit drug use within the Damaturu metropolis.

During a joint patrol conducted by the Hisbah department in conjunction with other security agencies, the suspects were identified and detained, consisting of nine females and five males, as disclosed by Alhaji Yusuf Hassan Yusuf, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry.

Alhaji Yusuf emphasized that the accused individuals’ behaviors contradicted Islamic teachings, leading to their arrest for engaging in immoral activities.

While addressing the media, the permanent secretary announced that some of the suspects would be handed over to security agencies for legal prosecution, while others would receive counseling from religious clerics to guide them towards a more virtuous path.

In a related development, the Kebbi State Hisbah Command reported a surge in various social issues, including over 350 cases of rape, abduction, drug addiction, family disputes, infant abandonment, missing persons, and abductions over an eight-month period.

Architect Muhammed Sani Aliyu, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs in Kebbi State, highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Hisbah command with security agencies, legal professionals, and religious leaders to address these societal challenges while ensuring compliance with constitutional provisions.
