The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a 42-year-old man, Auwalu Shuaibu, for mistakenly assaulting his 9-year-old daughter under the false belief that she was his wife.
The suspect, Auwalu Shuaibu, admitted to the grievous error, leading to his arrest by the authorities. Confirming the incident, Adamawa police spokesman SP Suleiman Ngurore disclosed that the arrest took place on 11th March 2024.
In a statement at the police headquarters in Yola, Auwalu Shuaibu expressed deep remorse for his actions, narrating that the unfortunate incident occurred upon his return from a meeting in Gizga.
He recounted that following a day involving the purchase of welding materials with his friend Bashiru, they indulged in whisky consumption and later visited the cattle market to procure illicit substances.
After reaching home around 6 pm, Auwalu fell asleep only to wake up and mistakenly identify his daughter, who was beside him, as his wife.
The regretful father acknowledged his grave mistake and affirmed his decision to abstain from alcohol and illicit substances henceforth.
SP Suleiman Yahaya Ngurore further disclosed that CP Dankombo Morris had instructed the prosecution of the suspect, emphasizing the gravity of the situation and the need for legal action to be taken.
