A solemn gathering of dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and several state governors, attended the funeral prayer (Jana’iza) for the late Ibrahim Lamorde, former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), at the National Mosque, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The event, which took place in the afternoon, saw a multitude of mourners, including Governors Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, Babagana Zulum of Borno State, and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, among others, gather to pay their final respects to Lamorde.
National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and several members of the National Assembly, as well as public servants, were also in attendance to honor the memory of the late EFCC chairman.
Lamorde, a seasoned police officer, passed away on Sunday morning in Egypt, where he was receiving medical treatment. Born on December 20, 1962, in Mubi, Adamawa State, he joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1986 and rose through the ranks, serving in various capacities before his appointment as EFCC Chairman in 2011.
During his tenure, Lamorde played a crucial role in the fight against corruption, leading several high-profile anti-corruption cases and earning recognition and respect nationwide.
The funeral prayer, led by the Chief Imam of the National Mosque, was a poignant tribute to Lamorde’s life and legacy, as mourners reflected on his dedication and commitment to the nation’s anti-corruption crusade.
The EFCC, in a statement, described Lamorde as a dedicated and courageous officer who gave his all to the fight against corruption. The Adamawa State government also declared a three-day mourning period in his honor.
