The Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its timetable for the upcoming local government election, scheduled for July 13. The party has set a high price for chairmanship aspirants, pegging nomination and expression of interest forms at N10 million.
According to the party’s state chairman, Ahmed Shehu, councillorship aspirants will pay N120,000 for their forms. However, the party has offered a 50% discount for women and physically challenged members.
The timetable released by the PDP shows that sales of nomination forms will take place from June 7-12, followed by submission of completed forms on June 13-14. Screening of aspirants is scheduled for June 15-16, with councillorship primaries on June 21 and chairmanship primaries on June 22.
This move has raised eyebrows, with some critics questioning the high cost of the forms and its potential impact on the democratic process.
