A suspected armed robber was set on fire by a mob in Taraba State on Monday. The suspect had allegedly stabbed an 18-year-old POS operator to death in the Wukari Local Government Area, near the yam market.
The victim, a student preparing for her NECO exams, was attacked in her shop.
The suspect had entered the shop under the guise of making a withdrawal, but ended up stabbing the teenager, resulting in her death.
“On approaching her shop, the suspect, who could not succeed in stealing money, ended up stabbing her, which resulted in her death.”
Another source, who spoke with our reporter on the condition of anonymity, said the suspect would have escaped, but the youths went after him and set him on fire.
Chairman of the local government council, Ismaila Dauda, confirmed the incident to our reporter.
“It is true that one young man went into a POS operator’s shop and stabbed her to death on Monday, June 17th, 2024, in Wukari town.”
He added, “The suspect was pursued, caught, and lynched to death by hoodlums.”
“It’s a sad and unfortunate incident. The young girl of 18 came to prepare for NECO exams and unfortunately met her untimely death,” the chairman lamented.
At the time of filing this report, security agencies were investigating the incident.
The state police command also confirmed the incident to DAILY POST through its Acting Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Gambo Kwache.
According to the Acting PPRO, “The suspect who stabbed the POS operator on her neck was lynched by the youths who went after him.”
