The Gombe State Female Cricket team has been lauded for their outstanding performance in the zonal elimination event in Kaduna, which secured their qualification for the National Women’s Championship.
The commendation came from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development Mr. Modi Shelpidi, during a trophy presentation ceremony at the Ministry’s Conference Hall.
“The U17 Female Cricket team, you have done us proud, not only this Ministry but the entire Gombe State,” Shelpidi remarked while receiving the trophy on behalf of the Commissioner Ministry of Youth and Sports Development Hon.
Adamu Inuwa Pantami. “Our Governor, His Excellency, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya will be very proud when he hears about this performance.”
Shelpidi emphasized the importance of their upcoming participation in the National Championship and assured the team of the Ministry’s full support.
“As your Coach has already stated, you’re going for the National Championship, therefore, we’re expecting more from you. We will ensure that all requirements are met for you to compete at the national level,” he said.
Highlighting the significance of their victory, Shelpidi added, “This outing is very peculiar, in the sense that you won a trophy. Among many teams, you are the first to win a trophy for us this year.
We sincerely thank you and hope and pray that you will continue to perform even better. We are sure that you are going to make Gombe proud.”
Earlier, the Coach of the female cricket team, Odang Ene Mercy, expressed gratitude for the Ministry’s unwavering support. “I wish to thank the Ministry for always supporting us in our activities and for its continuous support in developing cricket in the state. We’ll continue to do our best to make the state proud,” Ene stated.
