The Yobe state government has on Tuesday commenced the free distribution of multi-billion naira agricultural empowerment equipment and implements to beneficiaries in Zone A senatorial district.
The distribution, scheduled in three phases, aims to cover all three senatorial zones of the state.
According to Mamman Mohammed, DG Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, beneficiaries were selected from each political ward of every local government, undergoing thorough profiling to ensure only genuine farmers actively engaged in agriculture benefit from the exercise.
This initiative, launched by Vice President Kashim Shettima, aims to make agriculture attractive, profitable, and economically viable for farmers in the state.
The state government procured various equipment, including tractors, ox-drawn ploughs, hand push planters, solar-powered irrigation water pumps, goats, hand push tillers, fertilizer, and assorted seeds.
Governor Buni warned against selling the implements, directing security operatives to arrest anyone attempting to cross borders with the equipment.
“We must have value for our money; the equipment must be used here to guarantee food sufficiency, food security, and promote economic prosperity through agriculture,” Governor Buni emphasized.
