The Bauchi Emirate Council has revoked the traditional title of Senator Shehu Buba Umar (Bauchi South) for allegedly ”disrespecting’ Governor Bala Mohammed.
Buba of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who held the title of the ‘Mandarin Bauchi’ at a briefing held last week accused Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of diverting palliative items provided by the APC-led Federal Government.
The Senator was reacting to the Governor’s criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies.
The Senator claimed that essential supplies like rice, corn, and fertilizer meant to alleviate economic hardship in the state were allegedly sold by the state government instead of being distributed to the people.
However, in the letter dated August 14 by Nasiru Musa on behalf of the Emirate Council’s secretary, the Emirate Council disclosed that the title withdrawal followed a council meeting yesterday , where Senator Umar’s alleged misconduct was discussed.
The council subsequently resolved to remove him from his traditional role within the emirate, stating that such behavior contradicts the values and traditions upheld by the Bauchi Emirate.
Buba’s removal echoed a previous incident in January 2023 when the Emirate Council revoked the traditional title of a former Minister, Bello Kirfi due to alleged disloyalty and disrespect toward Governor Bala Mohammed.
