The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has rescued 3,683 people trapped in their homes due to severe flooding in Maiduguri.
According to SEMA’s Director-General, Barkindo Mohammed, the rescue operation is ongoing, with a focus on those who have made distressed calls.
Mohammed stated that the agency has opened 14 official camps and numerous informal camps to accommodate displaced persons. He also revealed that the Federal Government has provided N3 billion and food consignments to support the state’s relief efforts.
The flood has affected approximately two million people, and SEMA is working to respond to the needs of victims in Maiduguri and other Local Government Areas across the state.
The rescue operation involves motorized boats, canoes, divers, military, and fire service trucks. SEMA is also collaborating with other agencies to provide aid to those affected by the flood.
