The Rapid Respond Team (RRT) from the Ministry Of Agriculture on Sunday 22nd Sept. conducted a site visit to investigate and respond to a reported pest infestation at Bali Community of Kpasham Ward, Demsa LGA. The objective was to assess the situation, provide immediate assistance, and recommend long-term solutions.

The team of six agricultural experts was led by Dr. Ibrahim Bayaso who represent the Honourable Commissioner of Agriculture, Prof. David Fintowa Jatau.ย  Upon arrival, they observed severity of damages to crops due to the infestation and identified the pest species.

Prof. David told the farmers that the aim of their response is to identify, eliminate and stop the pest from laying eggs so as to stopย  future threat. He promised them that they will be coming with series of programs to help them have stable yields.

The Honourable Commissioner assured the farmers of Governor Ahmadu Umaruย ย  Fintiri readiness to uplift the farming method in the state by coming up with interventions and programs. He urged them to continue supporting Fresh Air government for more dividends of democracy.

Earlier, the Sarkin Noma of Community Mr. Andenikus Lazarus thanked government for coming to their aid. He further asked them to assist his fellow farmers with an insecticide that will completely eliminate the pest.

Another farmer, Mr Pharinsa Paris who lost his entire farm to the disaster call on government to assist him and other farmers that lost all their investment to this outbreak. He said the outbreak affected over 10,000 farmers who cut across Kpasham, Dong and Bille Wards of Demsa LGA. According to him, farmers from in Numan and Lamurde LGAs are battling with the same infestation.

After spreading the insecticides to some farms, the team gave the remaining to farmers present and instruct them to do same in their respective farms.
