Fintiri Receives NMA Award for Excellence in Healthcare Delivery

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Adamawa State Chapter, has honored Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri with an Award of Excellence for his outstanding contributions to healthcare delivery in the state.

Dr. Yunusa Dahiru, Chairman of NMA Adamawa State Chapter, presented the award on thursday, praising Governor Fintiri’s visionary leadership and commitment to improving healthcare services.

He said the governor’s implementation of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) has enhanced healthcare workers’ welfare and motivated medical professionals.

According to the chairman, this support has contributed to improving the quality of healthcare delivery to the people of Adamawa State, reversing the internal and external brain drain of doctors and health workers.

Dr Dahiru added that Key achievements recognized by NMA include the construction of seven new cottage hospitals, creation and funding of the Adamawa State Health Insurance Scheme, and provision of vulnerable funds for less privileged citizens.

The Chairman stressed that Governor Fintiri also championed the conversion of Futy Yola to a conventional university, allowing for the training of medical doctors and other allied sciences.

He further said that the governor’s swift response to the recent cholera outbreak and his exceptional leadership in areas such as revenue collection, agriculture, support for small and medium enterprises, human capacity building, and infrastructure development were commended.

Dr. Dahiru also thanked Governor Fintiri for extending infrastructure development to his locality, specifically citing the construction of access roads and drainage systems in Yola South. The community has named one of the roads after the governor’s father, Umar Badami Road, in appreciation.

The NMA chairman said the association has made significant contributions to healthcare, including training programs, free medical outreach, and efforts to eliminate quack doctors.

He therefore requested support from the state government for an upcoming medical outreach program scheduled for October 26-30, 2024, at GULAK General Hospital, aiming to conduct 100 surgeries and consult 2,000 patients.

Responding, Governor Fintiri thanked the NMA for recognising him with the award of excellence, assuring the team leadership that his administration will continue to accord priority to the healthcare sector in the state.

Fintiri restated the commitment of the state government to continue to render all the necessary support that the NMA Adamawa chapter may require, to boosting healthcare services.

He commended the resilience of healthcare personnel in the state towards ensuring that Adamawa is safe and free from diseases, urging them to maintain the spirit for the best interest of the citizens.
