Gombe Farmers Excel at National Agricultural Show

Gombe State’s agricultural prowess was on full display at the recent National Agricultural Show, where its farmers achieved remarkable success.

The Gombe farmers clinched second place in the category of crop diversity and value addition, and third place in the large ruminants category.

Gombe State is renowned for its rich agricultural heritage. The farmers’ exhibition at the show displayed a diverse range of crops, including staple foods like rice, maize, sorghum, and millet, as well as cash crops such as groundnuts, sesame seeds, and cotton.

The state’s farmers have also excelled in value addition, transforming raw agricultural products into high-value items like processed foods, oils, and textiles.

The achievements of Gombe farmers would not have been possible without the robust support of the state government.

Through a series of targeted interventions, the administration has created an enabling environment for agricultural excellence:

Farmers have benefitted from subsidized fertilizers, seeds, and other critical inputs, reducing production costs and boosting yields.

Regular training sessions have equipped farmers with modern techniques to optimize productivity and sustainability.

Also, Government-sponsored vaccination programmes and veterinary care have enhanced livestock health and productivity, while Dialogues and mediation between farmers and herders have helped address land and water disputes, promoting harmony and cooperative development.

Speaking on the achievements, the Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Gombe State Chapter and National President of the Maize Farmers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (MAFMAN), Modibbo Sadeeq Ahmad Nafada, expressed gratitude for the government’s support.

“This recognition is a result of the hard work and resilience of our farmers, as well as the strategic interventions by the government to empower the agricultural sector. Gombe is not just feeding the nation; we are creating jobs, driving economic growth, and ensuring food security,” Nafada stated.
