Lamido Retains Chair as Assembly Denies Rotation Claims

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has confirmed that the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Mustapha, remains the permanent Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs.

Chairman of the Assembly Standing Committee on Information, Musa Mahmud, refuted reports on Friday that a bill had been passed to make the chairmanship rotational.

“The allegation that this House passed a bill stripping the Lamido of his chairmanship is false. Section 18(II) of the bill affirms the Lamido as Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs,” Mahmud clarified.

He explained that confusion likely stemmed from Section 29(1), which creates three zonal traditional councils—Central, Northern, and Southern—with rotational leadership.

“These zonal councils will have rotational chairmanship, but all zonal leaders will report to the Lamido, who remains the state chairman,” Mahmud added.
