COAS Honours Frontline Troops On Christmas, Promises Enhanced Welfare

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has commended troops of the Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI for their bravery and sacrifices in securing the nation.

Oluyede gave the commendation on Tuesday during a Christmas luncheon with the troops in Maiduguri, Borno.

He described the luncheon as an opportunity to foster camaraderie and provide a sense of belonging to personnel deployed far from their families during the festive season.

The COAS lauded the troops for their contributions to the fight against terrorism and extremism, urging them to sustain the momentum as the nation approaches 2025.

“The Nigerian Army remains committed to ensuring peace, stability, and progress. I encourage you to intensify efforts to achieve a decisive victory over all adversaries,” Oluyede said.

He reiterated his commitment to enhancing troop welfare, noting that ongoing and new initiatives would continue to prioritize the well-being and professionalism of soldiers.

He also conveyed the appreciation of President Bola Tinubu and Nigerians for the sacrifices of the armed forces in safeguarding the nation.

In a goodwill message, Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno, represented by Dr. Bukar Tijani, Secretary to the State Government, commended the troops for their dedication to restoring peace in the region.

Zulum paid tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the country, assuring the military of the state government’s continued support.

Earlier, the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, Maj.-Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, said the event strengthened the bond among troops and provided an opportunity to reflect on successes and challenges.

Shuaibu commended the COAS for his regular visits to frontline areas, which he said had boosted morale among soldiers.

He assured the COAS of the troops’ unwavering commitment to fulfilling their mandate to restore normalcy in the North-East.

As part of his visit, the COAS also laid the foundation for two blocks of 30-family accommodations at Maimalari Cantonment, aimed at improving troop welfare.
