Tinubu Appoints Ogunjimi as Accountant General of the Federation

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Shamsedeen Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation, effective March 7, 2025.

Mr Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the appointment in a statement on Tuesday, noting that Ogunjimi was selected after a rigorous, merit-based process.

According to the statement, the selection involved a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and an oral interview conducted by a committee that reviewed top accounting officials in the federal civil service.

“The selection process underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting transparency, excellence, and competence in key public service positions,” the statement read.

Ogunjimi, 57, obtained a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1990, followed by a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos.

He is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and urged him to discharge his duties with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to national service.

Ogunjimi will take over from the outgoing Accountant General, Oluwatoyin Madehin, who retires on March 7.
