The Federal Government has dismissed claims of salary shortfalls for civil servants in January and February 2025, clarifying that payments were made in full.
Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
Mokwa explained that federal workers had received their regular salaries, following the exhaustion of various arrears paid between October and December 2024.
“Various salary arrears were paid in the last quarter of 2024, including minimum wage arrears, a 25 per cent and 35 per cent salary increase arrears, and wage award arrears. These payments led to an abnormal increase in salaries during that period,” he said.
He added that the return to normal salary payments in January 2025 had led some workers to assume they had been shortchanged.
“A glance at the current salary table will further substantiate this,” he noted.
The OAGF also disclosed that some workers were overpaid in December 2024 due to a system error. It said deductions were ongoing to recover the overpaid amounts.
“These deductions will continue until full recovery is achieved,” the statement read.
Mokwa further stated that the payment of promotion arrears is being handled by a Standing Committee on Promotion and Salary Arrears within the Budget Office of the Federation.
According to him, the committee compiles and verifies salary and promotion arrears before forwarding them to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) for payment.
He confirmed that IPPIS had fully processed and paid batches 1 to 6 of the arrears, while further batches were pending approval.
The OAGF assured workers that unless new salary arrears arise, the current salary structure would remain unchanged until a federal government salary review is conducted.
It urged workers to verify their salary details and avoid misinformation that could cause unnecessary panic.
