The Yobe Government has commiserated with victims of the insurgents’ attack on Gujba town, Gujba Local Government Area (LGA), pledging support for affected families and measures to enhance security.
The Executive Secretary, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Mohammed Goje, on Tuesday led a government delegation on an assessment visit to the community on behalf of Governor Mai Mala Buni.
Goje confirmed that 14 households, comprising 57 individuals, were affected in the attack, which occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on March 8. He said 12 blocks of rooms and eight shops, mostly belonging to business owners and local vigilante groups, were destroyed by fire.
“A 32-year-old vigilante lost his life, leaving behind two wives and seven children,” he said.
The secretary assured the victims of the government’s commitment to providing relief materials and support to help them rebuild their lives.
“The government is deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident. We will continue to work with security agencies to strengthen measures aimed at protecting lives and property,” he said.
He called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies in the fight against insurgency.
