The Adamawa House of Assembly has sent a delegation to Ganye Local Government Area following a windstorm that destroyed several houses and public buildings and claimed the life of a six-year-old boy.
The delegation, an ad-hoc committee of the House, was led by Musa Kallamu (Mayo Belwa). Other members included Bulus Kantomon (Shelleng), Emmanuel Kefas (Song), Kelvin Kefas (Toungo), and Japheth Hammanjabu (Verre).
The team visited affected areas including Sugu town and Ganye General Hospital to assess the level of destruction and commiserate with victims.
Kallamu said the lawmakers were in Ganye to gather first-hand information and ensure that necessary relief materials were provided promptly.
“We are here on behalf of the Speaker and the entire House to assess the extent of the damage and report to the government for immediate intervention,” he said.
At the hospital, the Principal Medical Officer, Dr. Moses Malena, conducted the team around the maternity and outpatient departments, which were severely affected by the storm.
Earlier, the committee paid a courtesy visit to the Gangwari Ganye, Alhaji Umaru Adamu, who confirmed that the incident occurred on Saturday, April 27, and led to the death of a child and destruction of homes and public infrastructure.
The lawmakers also visited Sani Usman, father of the deceased child, to condole with the family.
A resident, Abubakar Njidda, described the storm as the worst in over 50 years, saying it destroyed the Chief Magistrate Court and the Upper Area Court in Ganye.
The committee pledged to submit a detailed report to the Assembly for swift action.
