Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State on Thursday charged the state’s contingent to the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Ogun State to strive for excellence and return home with gold medals.
Kefas gave the charge in Jalingo while addressing Team Taraba ahead of their departure for the festival.
He encouraged the athletes to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to making the state proud, adding that the state government will continue to prioritize sports development.
“Our administration will not relent in providing the needed support for the growth of sports. I urge you to work hard and bring glory to Taraba,” he said.
The Director of Sports in the state, Mr George Shitta, disclosed that Taraba will compete in 13 sporting events at the national tournament.
Also speaking, former African Badminton Champion, Bulus Jimkam, who spoke on behalf of the athletes, assured the governor of the team’s readiness and determination to represent the state honourably.
Jimkam said the athletes were motivated and committed to putting in their best performances at the festival.
The National Sports Festival is scheduled to hold in Ogun State later this month, featuring athletes from across Nigeria.
