Troops Foil Kidnap Attempt In Taraba, Rescue Three Victims

Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued three victims unhurt in Chanchangi village, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The rescue operation occurred during a routine patrol and picketing exercise along the Takum–Chanchangi Road, when troops encountered armed bandits near Uko community, who had kidnapped three travellers.

Upon sighting the troops, the suspected kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled into the surrounding forest. The troops pursued the fleeing bandits, engaging them in a brief gun duel, which forced the criminals to retreat further into the bush.

All three victims, including Alhaji Ali, the Sariki Pawa of Takum, were rescued without injury. A vehicle belonging to one of the victims was also recovered during the operation.

The Commander of 6 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift and decisive action. He called on residents to continue supporting the military with timely and credible information to aid ongoing security operations.

He reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Army to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that efforts would be intensified to rid Taraba and its environs of criminal elements.
