
Tragedy struck in the Samunaka community of Jalingo, Taraba State, on Sunday following the death of a young man, Victor James, who was allegedly assaulted by residents over accusations of an affair with a pregnant married woman.
The incident, which has since triggered widespread outrage and concern, reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday when James was allegedly discovered in a compromising situation with a woman said to be seven months pregnant and married to a prominent local businessman, popularly known as Alhaji Bash.
Eyewitnesses told NAN that upon discovery, a mob descended on the victim, pouring hot water on him before subjecting him to a severe beating. He later died as a result of the injuries sustained in the assault.
The disturbing event has sent shockwaves across the Jalingo metropolis, sparking intense discussions on social media platforms and within the community.
Local residents and leaders are now demanding a thorough investigation into the matter. They have urged security agencies to act swiftly in ensuring that all those involved are identified and brought to justice.
“This is not just a crime of passion—it is a serious case of jungle justice that must be addressed by the authorities,” a community elder who preferred anonymity told NAN.
