The Bauchi State Government has banned all forms of farming activities along road setbacks, medians, green areas, and open spaces within the metropolis and other urban centres across the state.
The directive was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA), Mr. Yahaya Waziri.
According to the statement, the decision is aimed at promoting a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment for all residents. It stated that indiscriminate farming activities on public spaces pose serious risks to public safety, disrupt the aesthetic layout of the city, block drainage systems, and contribute to environmental degradation.
“Residents are strongly advised to desist from cultivating crops or engaging in any farming activity on public road setbacks, medians, green areas, and open spaces meant for beautification and urban development,” the statement said.
Waziri added that enforcement teams would begin monitoring compliance, and violators will face appropriate sanctions in line with existing environmental laws.
He urged residents to cooperate with the government’s efforts to improve urban planning and environmental sustainability in the state.
