Youths Urge Action Over Deputy Governor’s Incapacity in Taraba

A coalition of concerned youths under the aegis of Taraba State Youth Coalition Advocate for Good Governance has called on Governor Agbu Kefas and the Taraba State House of Assembly to constitutionally relieve the Deputy Governor of his duties due to prolonged health-related incapacitation.

In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by the coalition, the youths expressed sympathy for the Deputy Governor, who is reportedly undergoing serious health challenges, and offered prayers for his full recovery. However, they emphasised that the absence of an active deputy had created a leadership vacuum that was negatively impacting the state’s governance.

“At a time when Taraba needs strong and active leadership, especially in the executive arm, we cannot afford delays or uncertainty. Governance must move forward to meet the growing needs of our people in terms of development, accountability, and service delivery,” the group said.

They urged the state government to act with compassion, legality, and a sense of duty, stating that their appeal was not political but born out of concern for effective governance and the well-being of the people.

“We are calling on His Excellency, Governor Agbu Kefas, and the Taraba State House of Assembly to take the necessary constitutional steps to relieve the Deputy Governor of his duties. We also ask that a capable and dedicated replacement be appointed to serve the people of Taraba effectively,” the statement added.

The group reiterated the importance of active and responsive leadership, stressing that the situation must be handled with both urgency and respect for the rule of law.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the state government or the office of the Deputy Governor.
