Yobe Govt. Orders Temporary Closure of Weekly Markets Over Security Operations

The Yobe State Government has announced the temporary closure of Katarko, Kukareta, and Buni Yadi weekly markets due to ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor of Yobe State on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the decision to shut down the markets is aimed at enabling proactive engagements and consolidating the gains recorded in recent security efforts across the affected areas.

“This temporary measure became necessary to achieve certain set targets to improve the security situation in the affected areas and the state in general,” Abdulsalam said.

While acknowledging the potential inconvenience the decision may cause, the state government appealed for public understanding, noting that the move was in the collective interest of peace and safety.

“Efforts are ongoing to hasten the operation and minimize the pains of the temporary closure of the markets on the well-being of the citizens,” the statement added.

The government reassured residents that the affected markets would be reopened in the coming days once the necessary security benchmarks have been met.

The adviser urged all stakeholders to support the ongoing operation and cooperate with security agencies to ensure lasting peace in the state.
