Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has inaugurated a committee to oversee the creation of new emirates, districts, and village areas in the state.
Speaking during the inauguration at the Government House, Bauchi, Mohammed said the move was in fulfilment of his campaign promise to decentralize governance structures for improved service delivery and equitable resource distribution.
He noted that the creation of additional emirates and districts would foster peace and progress, promote communal and social development, and enhance unity among various communities.
“Traditional institutions have played a crucial role in promoting community participation, maintaining peace, and preserving our cultural heritage. Strengthening them will further accelerate grassroots development,” the governor said.
Mohammed urged the committee to conduct a thorough review of the historical, political, and social context of the communities seeking recognition.
He directed them to engage all relevant stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, and local authorities, to ensure fairness and inclusivity in the process.
The governor stressed that the exercise would involve physical boundary verifications, stakeholder consultations, and review of existing chieftaincy structures to avoid conflicts.
He gave the committee eight weeks to complete its assignment and submit comprehensive recommendations to the government.
In his remarks, the committee chairman, Hamza Koshe Akuyam, pledged to carry out the assignment with diligence, fairness, and transparency.
Akuyam assured that the committee would uphold integrity throughout the process and deliver recommendations that reflect the genuine aspirations of the people.
