The Governments of Adamawa and Yobe States have declared Tuesday, 15th July, 2025, as a public holiday in honour of the late former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who passed away on Sunday in London.
In a statement released on Monday by the Head of Civil Service in Adamawa State, Pharm. Isa Ardo Shehu, the Executive Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, approved the holiday to allow citizens reflect on the values and vision of the late former President.
Governor Fintiri urged residents to use the day to promote peace, patriotism, and unity, in line with President Buhari’s ideals. He directed that normal work activities will resume on Wednesday, 16th July, 2025.
Similarly, Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has approved the same day as work-free to mourn the former President. The announcement was made by the Director General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Mamman Mohammed.
Governor Buni called on citizens to dedicate the day to special prayers for the repose of the late President’s soul. He also instructed Imams across the state to offer prayers in mosques, describing Buhari as a leader who contributed immensely to restoring peace in Yobe and the entire North-East.
“He was a leader who has done so much to ensure return of security to Yobe State and the North East in general. He deserves this special honour from the people of the state,” Governor Buni said.
Earlier on Monday, the Yobe State Executive Council stepped down its weekly meeting to hold a special prayer session in honour of the late statesman.
In his condolence message, Governor Buni described Buhari as a patriot, disciplinarian, and man of integrity who dedicated his life to the unity and development of Nigeria. He prayed Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.
Governor Buni also extended condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the family of the late former President, the Katsina State Government, the Daura Emirate, and Nigerians at large.
