The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), University of Maiduguri branch, has successfully intervened in resolving the delay in July 2025 salary payments affecting staff using Access Bank.
In a circular issued by the branch Public Relations Officer, Mundi Suleiman Alhaji, on Friday, staff operating Access Bank and affected by the delay were directed to report to the university’s Bursary Department by 2:00 p.m. for immediate action.
The directive, which was made on behalf of the branch Chairman, Comrade Samaila Sadiq, prompted a swift engagement with the management of Access Bank. Reports confirmed that the Chairman met with the branch manager at about 2:00 p.m., after which salary alerts began to drop for staff from 3:00 p.m. onwards.
Several members of staff applauded the union’s leadership for their swift action and dedication. One member noted, “He met the Access Bank manager by 2:00 p.m., and salary started dropping by 3:00 p.m.—what a wonderful job.”
Another staff member advised fellow Access Bank users to hold the bank accountable going forward, warning that without sustained pressure, such delays could recur.
Comrade Sadiq was widely commended by staff for his decisive action and principled leadership. “Kudos to Comrade Samaila Sadiq. He met the Access Bank UNIMAID branch manager angrily by 2:30 p.m., and by 5:00 p.m. salary had started dropping,” another staffer said.
Expressions of appreciation also poured in for the SSANU Chairman’s integrity and proactive engagement. “Comrade Samaila Sadiq is a man of integrity, honesty, accountability, self-awareness, humility, and respect. May Allah continue to bless our Chairman,” one supporter remarked.
The incident underscores SSANU’s continued commitment to protecting the welfare of its members and holding service institutions accountable.
