
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has inaugurated a 21-member Relief and Post-Recovery Committee to respond to the recent flooding in Yola South Local Government Area.
The committee, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, is tasked with coordinating relief efforts and drawing up strategies for recovery in affected communities.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, on Friday in Yola.
According to the statement, members of the committee are drawn from various government ministries, security agencies, and community-based organisations.
The full membership includes:
1. Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta – Deputy Governor (Chairman)
2. Hon. Awwal Tukur – Secretary to the State Government (Secretary)
3. Hon. Kabiru Mijinyawa – Member Representing Yola South
4. Bello Hammandiram – Commissioner, Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement
5. Mohammed Sadiq Wali – Commissioner, Environment
6. Representative of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)
7. Executive Secretary, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA)
8. Representative of the Nigerian Army
9. Representative of the Nigerian Air Force
10. Representative of the Nigeria Police Force
11. Representative of the Department of State Services (DSS)
12. Representative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)
13. Chairman, Yola South Local Government
14. Two representatives from the Muslim Council
15. Two representatives from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)
16. Representative of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA)
17. District Head of Yola
18. District Head of Bole/Yolde Pate
19. Representative from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government
Fintiri charged the committee to ensure fairness, transparency, and diligence in its operations.
“We are committed to providing relief and support to affected communities and working towards sustainable solutions to mitigate future disasters,” the governor said.
He urged the committee to urgently assess the situation, bring succour to victims, and recommend long-term preventive measures.
The committee is expected to commence work immediately.
