Fintiri Approves N8 Billion for Pension, Gratuity Arrears in Adamawa

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has approved the release of ₦8 billion for the payment of outstanding pension and gratuity arrears owed to retired workers in the state.

The Permanent Secretary of the Adamawa State Pension Board, Mr. Mohammed Usman, confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday, saying the funds will be disbursed to both state and local government retirees.

According to Usman, ₦5 billion will be allocated to state pensioners, while ₦3 billion has been earmarked for local government pensioners across the state.

He explained that the backlog of payments was inherited from the previous administration, which he said failed to settle pensions and gratuities during its four-year tenure.

“This approval by His Excellency, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, reflects the administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of our senior citizens who have served the state diligently,” Usman said.

He assured retirees that payment processes would commence shortly and would be handled in a transparent and orderly manner.

The move has been widely welcomed by pensioners and labour unions in the state, who have long demanded a resolution to the issue of unpaid benefits.

Observers note that this development aligns with Fintiri’s broader policy focus on public sector reforms and social welfare improvement.

More updates are expected as the disbursement begins in the coming weeks.
