The North East Zonal Director of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Adamu (rtd), has commended the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), for its operational successes in Taraba State.
Adamu gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Brigade Headquarters in Jalingo on Thursday as part of a zonal sensitisation tour by the Centre.
He expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to him and his team, and praised the Brigade’s efforts in tackling insecurity through kinetic and non-kinetic measures.
The Zonal Director said the visit was aimed at introducing the Centre’s mandate, which focuses on curbing the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the North East.
He said the Centre was ready to collaborate with security agencies through intelligence sharing, public enlightenment campaigns and community engagement, as part of efforts to check the circulation of illicit arms.
Responding, the Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brig.-Gen. Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, thanked the Director and his delegation for the visit.
He reaffirmed the Brigade’s readiness to partner with the Centre, stressing that addressing illegal arms trafficking requires a collective and sustained effort.
Uwa noted that the support of local communities remained crucial to the success of security operations, particularly through vigilance and timely information sharing.
He added that reducing the presence of illicit arms was vital to strengthening peace, stability and development in the state and the region.
The visit ended with the exchange of souvenirs and a group photograph to mark the occasion.
