Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, has extended humanitarian assistance to victims of recent Boko Haram attacks in Kirawa, a border community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The intervention, carried out in collaboration with Hon. Usman Jaha (Babawo) and Hon. Abdullahi Buba Abatcha, included the distribution of cash support and essential relief materials to residents who were displaced by renewed insurgent assaults that claimed several lives, destroyed properties, and ravaged farmlands.
The attack, which occurred weeks ago, forced hundreds of villagers to flee their homes, many of them seeking temporary refuge across the border in neighbouring Cameroon. Some of the displaced persons have now begun returning under challenging circumstances.
Speaking during the distribution exercise on Monday, Senator Ndume—represented by the former Chairman of Gwoza LGA, Hon. Ibrahim Abba Chupun—urged the beneficiaries to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
“These relief materials and cash support are contributions from myself, Hon. Usman Jaha, and Hon. Abdullahi Buba Abatcha. We urge you to make judicious use of them for the intended purpose,” Ndume said, empathising with the affected residents.
He further encouraged the returnees to stay hopeful and firm in their faith, assuring them that efforts are ongoing to restore full normalcy to the region and rebuild devastated communities.
Senator Ndume also commended the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, for his relentless commitment to the welfare of vulnerable and displaced persons across the state.
“Governor Zulum is a leader who will not be forgotten for his sacrifices and compassion towards our people,” he added.
The senator’s representative was accompanied by key community stakeholders, including Alhaji Yakubu Kirawa and Hon. Ahmed Agayra, who jointly supervised the distribution of the relief items.
In his remarks, the community leader of Kirawa, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed deep appreciation to the lawmakers for their timely intervention and continued support during their time of need.
The gesture has been widely praised by locals as a much-needed show of solidarity, as the community gradually recovers from the impact of the attacks.
