Another Police Officer Allegedly Gunned Down By Soldier In Bauchi

A Police Constable, Ukasha Muhammed, has been allegedly shot and killed by a serving military personnel in Bauchi State in what appears to be a deadly escalation between operatives of the Nigerian Police and the Nigerian Army.

The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a full-scale investigation and an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, urging calm among security personnel and the general public.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Ahmed Wakil, the incident occurred on Friday, October 10, 2025, at about 10:35 p.m. during a routine police patrol in the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi.

According to the statement, a patrol team led by Inspector Hussaini Samaila encountered an altercation near Padimo Hotel, where Constable Ukasha Muhammed (F/No 533164) was assaulted by two individuals. While one suspect was arrested, the other reportedly fled the scene.

The arrested suspect was identified as Private Usman Mubarak (23NA/84/5346), a soldier attached to Operation Safe Haven, a special military task force based in Jos, Plateau State.

The situation escalated further when, at about 11:05 p.m., two additional men—identified as Private Yakubu Yahuza (23NA/85/10185) and Private Godspower Gabriel (23NA/84/5654)—arrived at the location. Both were said to be partially dressed in military uniforms and armed with rifles.

“They reportedly opened fire on Constable Ukasha Muhammed, shooting him in the left chest before fleeing the area,” the statement said.

The injured officer was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel. His remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary.

CSP Wakil confirmed that both Private Yahuza and Private Gabriel are now in police custody, and the investigation into the fatal shooting is ongoing. He added that the command has assembled a dedicated team of homicide detectives to conduct a “professional, transparent, and expeditious” probe into the matter.

The CP has reiterated the command’s commitment to justice and accountability and stressed that the incident must be handled with the utmost seriousness to prevent a breakdown in inter-agency relations.

Meanwhile, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 33 Artillery Brigade, Captain Atang Hallet Solomon, confirmed the incident to Channels Television via a telephone call. He stated that while full details are still emerging, the Nigerian Army will also conduct its own internal investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing.

This is the second reported incident in recent months where a police officer has allegedly been killed by a military personnel in Bauchi. In August, a Mobile Police Inspector was shot dead by a soldier in Futuk, Alkaleri Local Government Area.
