
The Governing Council of Greenland University has announced a major recruitment exercise for principal officers and key administrative staff as part of efforts to strengthen governance and accelerate its academic development agenda.
The announcement, contained in an official advertisement issued in Jalingo, Taraba State, invites highly qualified, experienced, and visionary candidates to apply for senior leadership positions in the emerging private institution.
The advertised positions include Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Bursar, University Librarian, Director of Works and Physical Planning, Director of Academic Planning, and Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
According to the statement, the university is positioning itself as a future-focused institution committed to excellence in teaching, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and community service. It added that Greenland University aims to become a leading centre of learning in Africa and beyond through digital transformation, international partnerships, and sustainable development strategies.
Strategic Requirements for Applicants
The university emphasized that applicants must demonstrate strong competencies in digital transformation, Artificial Intelligence (AI) awareness, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles, financial management, and community engagement.
It further stressed that candidates should be able to drive innovation, mobilize resources, and contribute to the university’s “Knowledge for Self-Reliance” philosophy, which focuses on translating academic knowledge into practical economic and social value.
Vice Chancellor Position
For the position of Vice Chancellor, applicants must be distinguished professors with at least 10 years of standing, a strong publication record, and a minimum of 1,000 citations in recognized academic databases such as Google Scholar, Scopus, or Web of Science.
Candidates must also demonstrate proven leadership experience, research grant acquisition capacity, and must not be above 60 years at the time of assumption of duty.
Registrar, Bursar and Other Principal Roles
The Registrar is required to possess at least a second-class lower degree with 10 years of administrative experience, while membership of ANUPA or relevant professional bodies is mandatory.
For the Bursar position, candidates must be qualified accountants with ICAN, ANAN, or ACCA certification and at least 10 years of relevant experience in financial management.
The University Librarian role requires a PhD or strong Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, with experience in digital library systems and academic publications.
The Director of Works and Physical Planning must be a registered professional engineer, architect, or quantity surveyor with at least 15 years of experience in infrastructure development.
The Director of Academic Planning must be a senior academic (Reader or Professor) with a PhD, strong research output, and deep knowledge of NUC accreditation processes.
The ICT Director is expected to hold at least a Master’s degree in a relevant field, with strong experience in IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and digital transformation systems.
Tenure and Conditions
The university stated that all appointments are for a single tenure of five years in line with National Universities Commission (NUC) guidelines. It added that remuneration and conditions of service are competitive and aligned with standards within the Nigerian university system.
