Borno State Surpasses Expectations, Generates N2.8bn IGR In One Month

The Borno State government has announced a remarkable achievement in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), reporting a substantial N2.8 billion between January 1 and February 15, 2024.

Prof. Bello Ibrahim, the Executive Chairman of the Borno State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), shared this news during a press conference held on Friday in Maiduguri. According to Ibrahim, the Service saw a collection of N1.7 billion in January, with an additional N1.1 billion generated from February 1 to February 15.

Highlighting the success of the revenue-generating efforts, Ibrahim disclosed that the Service had also obtained N19.4 billion from Ministries, Departments, Agencies, as well as local government councils throughout the entirety of 2023.

Attributing the surge in revenue to strategic measures, the Chairman acknowledged the state’s dedication to sealing revenue leakages, prioritizing staff welfare, and integrating modern technology to streamline tax collection payment systems.

Ibrahim stated, “The performance and huge successes achieved by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s administration are due to the consolidation of the state government’s aggressive IGR drive across major sectors of the economy.”
