President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second term ends on July 31, 2026.

The appointment was announced on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga.

Here are five key things to know about the incoming JAMB boss:

Professor of Computer Engineering
Professor Aina is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University. He is regarded as an expert in examination systems, digital infrastructure and institutional reforms.

Studied in the United Kingdom
He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent. He also earned an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

Aina also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

Started JAMB Experience During NYSC
According to the Presidency, Aina first worked with JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps programme, where he gained experience in admissions administration and institutional processes.

The experience reportedly shaped his contributions to examination reforms and systems optimisation.

Worked With Major Examination Bodies
With more than 15 years of post-graduation experience, Aina has consulted for major examination bodies including the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, as well as several state ministries of education.

His areas of expertise include ICT systems, examination integrity, digital transition and operational reforms.

Set To Become Youngest JAMB Registrar
Professor Aina, who turns 40 in July, is set to become the youngest Registrar in the history of JAMB.

He is also a member of professional bodies including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

In a previous interview granted after becoming a professor, Aina said success requires both hard work and smart work.

“I think hard work, but beyond hard work, I think also smart work. It is not just about working hard; you need to work smart,” he said.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina would build on the achievements recorded under the leadership of Professor Oloyede and further strengthen the nation’s examination system.
